The artist and graphic journalist Victoria Lomasko will give a lecture about her experiences and her evolution as a political artist on Thursday, April 16 from 4:30-5:45 PM in King Library 320.

Victoria (Vika) Lomasko’s practice of graphic reportage synthesizes image and text, taking the form of novels, journalism, comics, paintings and monumental murals. In her latest book, The Last Soviet Artist, Lomasko documents her travels to Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Georgia and the North Caucasus, depicts the drama of the Belarusian revolution, the final major protests in Russia, and reflects on the artist’s life in exile (Vika currently lives in Berlin, Germany, after having been named a "foreign agent" by the Putin regime).

In March 2019, Vika traveled to Miami University to complete her first-ever commissioned mural. Vika had received a great deal of acclaim after her book, Other Russias, a collection of her graphic journalism drawings, had appeared in English translation in 2017.  During her two weeks on campus, Vika completed a mural entitled “Atlases,”  still viewable on the third floor of King Library.
