About this Event
151 S. Campus Ave., Oxford, OH 45056
We're celebrating International Women's Day (March 8th) by focusing on ways we can work together in small ways every day to slow down and intentionally incorporate more sustainability into how we approach our fashion choices.
What does sustainable fashion have to do with International Women's Day?
Did you know that the fast fashion industry disproportionally affects women and girls wordwide? 80% of global garment workers are women, and unfortunately women tend to find themselves in lower-tier positions than men in the industry, opening them up to the possibilities of abuse, low wages, low working conditions, and often without healthcare or other coverages.
When we talk about sustainability in the clothing and fashion industry, we can't ignore the complex history of female textile work in the home - for necessity (during wartime or during lean times), for self-expression, for love, for nurturing, for sustainability - and how that interplays with the global fashion industry.
And what's more - women have used textile work and fashion as forms of resistance and protest throughout history!
So Join us March 12th, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. to make, mend, swap, and celebrate together!
Activities will include:
Donuts, fruit, water, and (most importantly) COFFEE will be provided to fuel your creativity.
