This two-part seminar will explore the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and strategies to start or deepen participants' implementation of UDL in their classrooms. Two new tools, Blackboard Ally and CARES, which can be used to employ UDL in teaching, will also be introduced in a lab format. During session two, participants should bring course content for a lab style session. We will provide assistance with implementing updates based on UDL principles, including a demonstration of two new accessibility tools for your toolkit: Blackboard Ally and CARES (Conversion and Remediation Express Services).  Note: Participants should bring a laptop to the session.

Stephanie Dawson is the Director of the Miller Center for Student Disability Services at Miami University and a University of Cincinnati Alumna. Her passion is mobilizing teams to innovate accessibility practices and advance inclusion for people with disabilities. In her current role, she leads the daily operations of an experienced team of disability services professionals and cross-collaborates with university departments to drive institutional commitment to accessibility. Stephanie's expertise includes leveraging technology to streamline access to accommodations, faculty support & education, institutionalizing accessibility best practices, and supporting organizations in remaining service delivery through a social justice lens.

Autumn Meade studied Applied Sociology and Family, Gender, & Society at the Miami University Regional Campuses and received her degree in 2011. Following graduation, she worked as the office coordinator for the English & Foreign Languages Department at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. However, Autumn has a passion for Miami University and knew she wanted to come back. She fulfilled this goal and returned to Miami in 2014 as the Technical Support & Accessibility Specialist for the Regional E-Camps department. She joined the AccessMU team as the Accessible Technology Coordinator in December of 2017. Autumn is a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her nieces and nephew. She also enjoys cooking, movies, and traveling.

Cyndi Govreau has worked in higher education for more than 20 years. Prior to coming to Miami University, she was the project manager for online learning at a for-profit institution with 28 campuses across the country. She earned her master's degree in Teaching and Learning fully online. As an instructional designer, Cyndi can help faculty transform courses into engaged learning and creative learning opportunities. Working with faculty allows her to share her passion for engaged learning and to positively impact each and every student. We all know that no single approach works for every student, every course, and especially not for every faculty member. Cyndi works to find what works for you in your course and ensures that it aligns with your learning objectives.
