About this Event
100 Bishop Circle, Oxford, OH 45056
Dr. Ryan Burge, Professor of Practice, John C. Danforth on Religion and Politics at Washington University, will present the 2026 Edward A. Puff and Edith Kottmyer Puff Memorial Lecture in the Study of Christianity on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 6:00PM. Dr. Burge's lecture "The Four Types of "Nones": A New Typology of Religious Disaffiliation in America" will explore "nones" -Americans with no religious affiliation - and introduce a four-fold typology that shows disaffiliation takes multiple, distinct forms. These groups differ not only in theology and spirituality, but also in social attitudes and openness to religious re-engagement. Understanding these differences is essential for scholars, religious leaders, and anyone interested in the future of religion in American public life.
Presented by the Miami University Department of History and co-sponsored by the John W. Altman Institute for Entrepreneurship, the Menard Family Center for Democracy, and the Center for Civics, Culture and Society.
