About this Event
101 S. Campus Ave., Oxford, OH 45056
This program features Florence Price’s “Symphony No. 4,” Richard Wagner’s “Prelude and Liebestod” from “Tristan und Isolde,” and the world premiere of Action Potentials by senior Gabe Hardman, this year’s winner of the Miami University Composition Competition.
Price, the first African American woman to have her work performed by a major American orchestra, infused her compositions with rich melodies, folk influences, and vibrant orchestration. Her fourth symphony is a testament to her enduring legacy, blending the influences of Africa.
“This concert is an exploration of the human experience through sound,” MUSO conductor Ricardo Averbach said. “Each piece on this program tells a story—of passion, of struggle, of triumph.”
