About this Event
Presenter: Tarah Trueblood, Global Initiatives.
Microaggressions are prevalent on college campuses everywhere, and they create a culture of exclusion and serve to sabotage the learning process for everyone. This workshop will provide you with a basic understanding of microaggressions, expand your capacity to identify them when they occur, and equip you with some basic strategies to interrupt them in ways that foster learning. The strategies draw on the theory and praxis of intergroup dialogue pedagogy (see https://www.miamioh.edu/global-initiatives/cawc/initiatives/intergroup-dialogue/index.html). Note: This workshop assumes a basic understanding of concepts like privilege, power, and oppression as they relate to social identities (ability and disability, ethnicity, gender, race, religious and secular ideology, and sexual orientation).
