πŸ—“οΈ Spotlight Tour
Jack Green, Ancient Egyptian Column Fragments from Amarna, reign of Akhenaten, in Global Perspectives (Orpha Webster Gallery)
πŸ“… Wed, May 21 | πŸ•› 12:00–12:30 PM
πŸŽ™οΈ Presented by Jack Green, Jeffrey Horrell '75 and Rodney Rose Director and Chief Curator

Join us for this introduction to a well-traveled ancient Egyptian object in our collections. Donated to the Art Museum in 1978 by Walter I. Farmer (β€˜35) as part of a larger foundational gift of artworks, these column fragments date from the reign of the β€˜heretic’ pharaoh, Akhenaten and belong to the Amarna period of the New Kingdom. 🏺✨

Depicting an offering scene by the Pharaoh to the sun-deity Aten 🌞, very little information was known about the origins of this object until recently, when it was identified as coming from an archaeological excavation at Amarna, Egypt carried out over a century ago. πŸ“œπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

Find out more about this object’s circuitous journey to RCCAM, and how archival research helped identify its origins. πŸ§©πŸ“š
