"Restoration remains an acid test: application of ecological theory to understand factors influencing diversity and functioning of restored prairie "

Dr. Sara G. Baer, Director, Kansas Biological Survey & Center for Ecological Research, University of Kansas, will draw on her work research on restoring tallgrass prairie on farmland, including the roles of different plant and microbial species, and of climate variability.  Her lab’s research also explores how prairie restoration affects carbon sequestration in the soil.

A reception will follow in Pearson Hall.

Thursday, May 2, Dr. Baer will also give the Biology Department seminar at 4:15 pm in 218 Pearson Hall.  That presentation is entitled, “Reversing ecosystem disservices caused by agriculture: plant and soil drivers of belowground ecosystem recovery during grassland restoration”
