Research on Minority Languages in India
Talk by Patricia McDonough '15, Miami University linguistics alumna. McDonough is working on her PhD at Indiana University, Bloomington.
A semester studying abroad in India as an undergraduate linguistics student at Miami turned into an incredible opportunity to begin documenting Thangal, a Tibeto-Burman language spoken by about 2500 people in Northeast India. In this talk, McDonough will present key features of the Thangal language, discuss current efforts being made to describe it, and share her experiences from eight months in the field.
