Record. Rewind. Reflect. Repeat.: Using Video Self-Reflection to Improve Teaching
Presenter: Sarah Watt, Educational Psychology; recipient, 2020 E. Phillips Knox Distinguished Teaching Award
Many of us dread watching ourselves teaching. But what if systematically observing our own teaching could improve our students' experience and make us more effective educators? This session will provide an overview of how to operationalize your own teaching goals, systematically observe the teaching and learning in your courses through video, and make improvements through an iterative process that takes very little time and effort. Whether you are concerned about increasing ratings on teaching evaluations, looking to improve your classroom learning environment, or want to evaluate a new teaching practice or program, this session is for you! Each participant will walk away with an observation checklist individualized to your teaching needs/goals and the tools to implement video self-reflection as a personalized measure of teaching effectiveness.
