Natalie Miczikus MFA Thesis Exhibition
Reception for the Artist: Saturday, March 27, 6-7 p.m.
Artist Statement: Through disjunctive realities, my work contrasts my lived experiences with the predetermined sociocultural ideations of womanhood and positions identity in constant flux. My mixed media paintings aim to develop discourse that critiques conventional morality and gender norms. Family photography and thematic decorum are utilized in my work to speak upon traditional ideologies. However, when met with the raw body language of the mis-fitting figures, the connotations that are inevitably perceived are blurred; making room for new metaphors as the claustrophobic environment becomes equivocal and overwrought.
