About this Event

The concert will feature Defiance, by Martin Hebel, commissioned to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra.
Hebel, who used to be a faculty member at Miami, will join the MUSO for this special presentation.
The concert will include a joint performance with the Butler Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, conducted by their music director, James Ledbetter. They will showcase works by Shostakovich, Dvorak, and Tchaikovsky.
The two orchestras will join forces for a powerful collaboration, performing the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni and Finlandia by Sibelius.
The remaining of the 120th season of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra will be dedicated to the esteemed Maestro Seiji Ozawa, who passed away February 6, 2024, at the age of 88. His passing leaves a void in the world of classical music, but his legacy will continue to inspire and uplift musicians and audiences alike for generations to come. Ricardo Averbach, Music Director of the Miami University Symphony Orchestra, had the privilege of studying under Maestro Ozawa at the Tanglewood Music Festival in 1992. Averbach's mentorship under Ozawa profoundly influenced his musical career and artistic vision.
