International Women's Day, traditionally celebrated on March 8, had its roots in suffrage and labor movements at the beginning of the twentieth century. Since then, it has become a day to advocate for issues affecting women: reproductive rights, gender-based violence, political enfranchisement, education equality, among others.

The International Women's Day StoryCircle, co-sponsored by the Department of Global and Intercultural Studies and Global Initiatives, offers a chance for the Miami University community to learn about the historical and present-day manifestations of IWD around the world: boycotts, parades, festivals, celebrations, creative productions and political mobilization have become global traditions on March 8. The date has begun to hold space for empowerment, resilience, and the reclaiming of public venues and official narratives.

Various guests will share their experiences from around the world. International refreshments will follow the event.
