Ever wondered how languages disappear and how they can come back to life? Join us for an engaging talk with Stella Beerman -- who is a citizen of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and communications specialist at the Myaamia Center.

In her talk, Stella Beerman will explore the history of the Miami-Illinois language, the factors that led to its decline in everyday use within the Miami Tribe community, and the ongoing efforts of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma through the Myaamia Center to preserve, revitalize, and teach the language to Miami Tribe citizens. Stella will also discuss the impacts of language revitalization on the well-being of the Miami Tribe and explain how Miami University has supported these efforts.
