Inspired by a 1906 poem by Black poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, Compensation explores aspects of Black culture in early 1900s and mid-1990s Chicago through two parallel love stories involving hearing-impaired women. The film screening will be followed by a live Q&A with the film’s director, University of California San Diego Professor Zeinabu irene Davis. Presented jointly by the Miami University Film Studies Program, the Department of Media, Journalism and Film and the Menard Family Center for Democracy.
