About this Event
701 E. Spring St., Oxford, OH 45056
The allyship workshop is an entry point to disability activism, specific for university students and campus involvement. The workshop will start by giving a brief overview of the history of the Disability Justice movement. Then, we will discuss the necessity of acceptable language for allyship and activism. Afterwards, information will be shared on accessibility, covering digital and physical accessibility when holding events or giving presentations. Each section will have dedicated times to practice various skills. Notably, a section of the presentation will involve evaluating an accessibility statement to practice improving and critiquing the statements of various establishments. At the end, the conclusion will include a discussion about everyone's commitment to activism and allyship moving forward. This programming is in partnership with Miami University’s Disability Studies Program and the Miller Center for Student Disability Services
