Miami University’s Dance Theatre annual Winter Concert

Dance Theatre’s eclectic style continues to include elements of many dance forms—from modern to contemporary to jazz.  The concert features music that ranges from Philip Glass, to a new work by Brazilian contemporary composer Rafael Fortaleza played live by Harvey Thurmer to Bon Iver, Luciano Berio and more.

Lana Kay Rosenberg, company director, has choreographed PULSE, with Harvey Thurmer (Violin faculty, Miami Music Department) playing the Brazilian score live. 

Guest artist Joanna Kotze (BA in Architecture from Miami in 1998 and Dance Theatre alumna) is a New York based choreographer and dancer. A Pep Talk for This Life uses Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia: Section III to playfully physicalize spectrums of order and chaos, humor and violence. T

Guest Liza Torrence, a 2017 Miami University graduate and Dance Theatre alum, has set "Waves", a contemporary work choreographed to music by Bon Iver.  

Guest Kendall Nelson, a 2018 alum of Miami and Dance Theatre, graduated with a degree in Public Health and now lives and works in Cincinnati.  Nelson has set epiphany! about how we must learn to face life’s challenges head on, 

Izzy Bielamowicz, a senior Political Science major with minors in Criminology, Philosophy and Law.  Her piece, Gate of Relief's, uses music composed by Dustin O'Halloran and Ludovico Einaudi.

Senior and Dance Theatre President Elizabeth Hale is a Biology, Pre-Medical Major with a Co-Major in Neuroscience and a minor in Dance from Atlanta, GA. Her dance, white card(s), was inspired by the human nature to develop habits and the difficulty we have in breaking them. 

Olivia Bushong is a senior Chemistry major with minors in Mathematics and Nutrition from Columbus, OH., Her piece Haven focuses on the memories that have brought her dancers to where they are now in their lives.  

Junior and Dance Theatre Publicity Chair Joanna Hollern, a Strategic Communications and Interactive Media Studies major with an Entrepreneurship minor, Her dance, Age of Envy, uses ng McMorrow’s song, “Get Low,” 

The Cheezies  will perform at each concert.  

Tickets are free for Miami students at the Box Office/Home Office, 034 CAB, and at the door;

$10 students/seniors; $12 in advance general admission and $15 at the door.

There is a TalkBack after the Saturday concert, providing an opportunity to meet the choreographers and dancers and ask questions.
