Born in Dordrecht, Netherlands, Ferdinand Bol trained under Jacob Gerritsz Cuyp before moving to Amsterdam in 1637. There, he studied under the legendary Rembrandt van Rijn, whose influence shaped his career. Bol became an independent master around 1642.
