Addressing DFW Rates in Introductory-Level Courses: Strategies for Fostering Student Success
Presenter: Claire McLeod, Geology and Environmental Science and Maija Sipola Geology and Environmental Earth Science
DFW (D, F, or withdraw) rates in large introductory-level courses are often higher than those in smaller courses, particularly for students from historically excluded groups. In this interactive workshop, we will consider the causes of these higher DFW rates, explore how disparities in DFW rates could reflect classroom cultures, and discuss pedagogical strategies to implement that will support students’ success.
