Miami University will host the 10th Annual National Civil Rights Conference in summer of 2021. Miami University was chosen to host the conference because of its sponsorship of the conference, its history of activism tied Freedom Summer, and the numerous civil rights landmarks and sites around campus. The theme for the 2021 conference is Rise, Advocate, Educate, and Cooperate: The Challenge of Change.

The June 20th NCRC Pre-Conference event will mark the 57th Anniversary Commemorative Service for James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner including: A Lighting of Candles for the Three Civil Rights Workers, Civil Rights and Social Justice Awards, Keynote Speaker, Placing of the Wreath taking place at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church - Philadelphia, Mississippi.

The commemorative service taking place in Philadelphia, MS will be live-streamed at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) at Taylor Auditorium in the Farmer School of Business Room 1000. The general public/national audience is welcome to register and view the event virtually.

All attendees at the live-stream event at Taylor Auditorium will be required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing in accordance with Butler County and Miami University guidelines to help minimize the risk of coronavirus transmission
